Secretário Geral da IBA, Chris Roberts, Realiza Primeira Visita Oficial a Portugal Durante o Porto Box Cup

Durante a edição da Porto Boxe Cup, um dos eventos mais aguardados no calendário do boxe em Portugal, o Secretário Geral da Associação Internacional de Boxe (IBA), Chris Roberts, fez a sua primeira visita oficial ao país. Acompanhado por Alisa Shcherbachenya, Diretora de Relações Internacionais da IBA, esta visita histórica assinalou o compromisso renovado da organização com o desenvolvimento do boxe em Portugal.

Roberts aproveitou a oportunidade para realizar uma análise aprofundada do desenvolvimento do boxe em Portugal. Nos últimos anos, o interesse e a participação no desporto têm crescido de forma notável, e durante a sua visita, Roberts destacou a importância de consolidar este progresso. Discutiu-se a necessidade de estabelecer parcerias sólidas para apoiar a formação de atletas, treinadores, Juizes e fortalecer os clubes locais, fundamentais para o crescimento sustentável da modalidade em todo o país.

Um dos momentos em destaque na visita foi a discussão sobre a possível realização da Champions Night em solo português. Este evento de prestígio atrai os melhores pugilistas do mundo e a sua realização em Portugal não só elevaria o perfil do boxe nacional internacionalmente, como também ofereceria uma oportunidade única para os talentos portugueses brilharem.

Para além da visita ao Porto Boxe Cup, Roberts e a sua equipa realizaram visitas importantes, tendo sido recebidos pelo Vereador do Desporto da Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos. Uma delas foi ao pavilhão de congressos de Matosinhos, onde exploraram oportunidades de colaboração com as autoridades locais para a realização de competições internacionais.

A participação da seleção nacional de boxe nos compromissos internacionais foi tema de conversa sobretudo a necissidade de apoio da IBA para a qualificação que ocorrerá na Tailândia bem como para as restantes competições internacionais de seleções.

Ao concluir a sua visita inaugural a Portugal, Roberts expressou o seu entusiasmo pelo futuro do boxe no país, elogiando o compromisso e a paixão dos envolvidos em Portugal. Esta visita não apenas fortaleceu os laços entre a IBA e a comunidade pugilística portuguesa, mas também reforçou o compromisso mútuo de impulsionar o desenvolvimento do boxe ao nivel local e também internacional.

During the Porto Boxe Cup edition, one of the most anticipated events on Portugal’s boxing calendar, the Secretary General of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Chris Roberts, made his first official visit to the country. Accompanied by Alisa Shcherbachenya, Director of International Relations at the IBA, this historic visit marked the organization’s renewed commitment to the development of boxing in Portugal.

Roberts took the opportunity to conduct a thorough analysis of boxing development in Portugal. Over the past few years, interest and participation in the sport have grown significantly, and during his visit, Roberts emphasized the importance of consolidating this progress. The need to establish solid partnerships to support the training of athletes, coaches, referees, and to strengthen local clubs, essential for the sustainable growth of the sport nationwide, was discussed.

A highlight of the visit was the discussion about the possible hosting of the Champions Night in Portuguese soil. This prestigious event attracts the world’s top boxers, and its realization in Portugal would not only elevate the profile of national boxing internationally but also offer a unique opportunity for Portuguese talent to shine.

In addition to attending the Porto Boxe Cup, Roberts and his team made important visits, being received by the Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Matosinhos. One of them was to the Matosinhos congress pavilion, where they explored opportunities for collaboration with local authorities for the organization of international competitions.

The participation of the national boxing team in international commitments was a topic of conversation, especially the need for support from the IBA for the qualification event that will take place in Thailand, as well as for other international team competitions.

At the conclusion of his inaugural visit to Portugal, Roberts expressed his enthusiasm for the future of boxing in the country, praising the commitment and passion of those involved in Portugal. This visit not only strengthened the bonds between the IBA and the Portuguese boxing community but also reinforced the mutual commitment to drive the development of boxing at both local and international levels.
